GUIDELINES FOR INDIGENOUS NATIONS VISITORS:
(Spiritual & Cultural Journeys)
Visiting tribes or indigenous peoples on their land/territories
is a privilege and not a right.
You will show respect in all your words and actions, also regarding proper
clothing if, and when invited to special events/ceremonial practices. Bringing
media or filming equipment in this connection (ceremonial) is absolutely not
allowed under any circumstances, and highly forbidden! Never record, photograph,
or sketch anything at all. Such equipment may be confiscated and you will
be thrown out. Illegal activities regarding this will not be tolerated. Never
touch or take anything, even dirt, stones etc. out if it´s original
place. Stay away from all sacred religious sites, prayer offering sites and
ruins unless invited and properly approached or instructed. Always clean up
after yourself, don´t leave any garbage or trash anywhere. Don´t
drink, touch alcohol or use drugs, or even bring these things around these
sacred/religious areas! Don´t argue, fight, finger point, push or shove.
Only go to the ceremonies if you are invited. Move slowly and restrain your
body movements. Watch what you say, always respect when elders talking - and
only speak in turns, or when asked. Do not imitate or interfer in ceremonial
activities which you may not understand, or follow ceremonial participants
in their processions. Always do what you are told, and keep your distance
from ceremonies where not invited. The native people only ask you to respect
their rules as follows. Matters concerning the peoples living in the different
areas, and affairs of the village - should not be disrupted by non-members
without the fully insight of the case or tradition. Outside meddling will
not be tolerated, nor welcome.
Please respect the sacredness of the sites and the items placed in different
areas, their traditions and cultural activities when visiting the native peoples
on their land. Certain sites or ceremonies might not be allowed to non-native
or non-initiated. Always ask a spiritual advisor for guidance on these issues,
and please respect their answer! Your uninformed actions may result in unintended
negative results, which can affect or influence the intent of the ceremony!
If one adheres to community guidelines and proper approach, your visit
should be a pleasant welcomed one!
